Location: Botswana is a land-locked country located centrally in Southern Africa. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and south-east, Namibia to the west and north, Zambia to the north, Zimbabwe to the north east.
Area: Botswana covers an area of 581,730 sq km making it just slightly smaller than Texas and slightly larger than France. It is a flat country, with approximately 70% of the land surface covered by the Kalahari Desert.

Population: According to the 2011 Population and Housing Census the population of Botswana is about 2 million. Botswana is a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multilingual society.
Language: Official languages are English and Setswana. Setswana is spoken by most people in Botswana and there are also various indigenous languages.
Religion: Botswana is a secular state, predominantly Christian.
Climate: Botswana climate is semi-arid. The rainy season is from November to March and winter is from May to July.
When to Go: Wildlife viewing is at its best from June to October.
The unit of currency is the Botswana Pula (BWP). Pula means, "rain". One hundred Thebe constitute one Pula.

Botswana's International Airport: Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (airport code: GBE) is located about 14 km from the city centre.
Getting to Botswana: There are international flights to/from Harare, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lusaka, and Nairobi. Air services are provided by Air Botswana, South African Express Airways and Kenya Airways. You can also take long-distance buses to and from neighbouring cities.
